The night has fallen; the glam and party have come to an end. Now comes the time to remove your entire makeup. As much time as a good smokey eye takes to put on, it takes more time to take it off your eyes. We understand the struggle and know the importance of removing all the eye makeup properly. Especially when it comes to our good old friend the kajal/kohl pencil, it requires a different level of work.
Let’s Start With The Dont’s On How Not To Remove Kajal/Eye Makeup.
Harsh Cleansers
- Harsh cleaners should be avoided in general. They irritate the skin, causing it to become itchy and too dry. If you notice a slight tingling sensation on your skin after using a cleanser, your skin is reacting negatively to the product.
Aggressive Rubbing
- When removing kajal or eye makeup, people frequently become impatient and begin to rub aggressively to remove the kajal. One needs to understand that excessive scrubbing or aggressive rubbing is only going to damage the skin, especially around the eyes, as the skin is more sensitive there.
Makeup Wipes
- No offence to those who enjoy using makeup wipes. However, when it comes to wipes, the constant tugging and rubbing on the face does not effectively remove makeup. It strips the skin of its natural oils, resulting in irritated and dehydrated skin.
These three things are a big NO in our makeup removal routine.
After we have cleared up what shouldn’t be done, let’s move towards a kajal/ eye makeup removal routine.
These are the Do’s or steps that will help you remove kajal or heavy-duty eye makeup without giving you panda eyes.
1. Soak your Eye Makeup
Your eyes will thank you for this. Soak a cotton pad with makeup remover or micellar water, depending on your preference. Allow the cotton pads to rest on your eyes for a few minutes. This will assist to break down the kajal’s intense pigment and make the process much simpler.
2. Double Cleanse

It is one of the most efficient makeup removal techniques, especially for intricate and pigmented eye makeup and kajal. It helps to remove all the coloured cosmetics without stripping the skin of its natural oils or excessive rubbing.
Step 1:
- Use an Oil-Based Cleanser or a Cleansing Balm. Gently massage the product around the face and eyes. The oil in the cleanser will help break down the makeup and clean the major layers of makeup. After gently massaging your skin for 30-45 seconds, wash your face.
Step 2:
- Use your everyday cleanser/foaming face wash for the second round of cleansing. Make sure to use a mild cleanser. The second cleanser is a foaming cleanser. Take the product into your hand and emulsify the product until it foams. Gently massage the foam on your face and around your eyes to remove all the leftover residue from the previous step. After massaging for 30-40 seconds, wash your face with water and pat it dry.
